Digital Transformation, a window to new opportunities

Over the last few years, the pace of change in the business world has accelerated.

New Digital Technologies

Every few years, we see new digital technologies emerging. This endless stream of innovation started with social, mobile, analytics…continuing with Cloud, IoT and many others that would deserve a section on their own. This has meant that organisations have been driven to understand and leverage the best use and application of these technologies.

Of course, it doesn’t stop there. Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain, Biometrics, Robotics are other examples of these technologies that are part of a wheel of continuous change. As a result, the competitive landscape, as well as the market demands that many organisations are subject to, are affected.

New Technologies and the companie’s creation of value propositions.

From atSistemas, in our experience we have seen that focusing on a single technology does not improve the performance or value proposition of the company.

You can do some social media, or develop an app to interface with customers and things go well and improve the customer experience. However, that doesn’t fundamentally change the business.

What is really interesting about the technologies we are talking about in this article is their ability to propose competitive solutions and elevate the value proposition to the customer. This change in value proposition is done through three capabilities:

1. Ubiquitous data: Having ubiquitous data has changed our lives from a personal point of view. At the moment, it is only beginning to change it from a professional or business point of view.

2. Unlimited connectivity: We find unlimited connectivity. Once we have knowledge about something, we can share it and respond to a customer need.

3. Massive processing power: add massive processing power.

In short: there are no limits to how much we can process and therefore, it helps us to visualise in a better perspective, how far we can go to do for our customers.

Re-design: a lever for the creation of new value propositions.

We have the example of Uber. This company was able to generate a new and better value proposition for customers. Uber was ahead of the taxi companies, which could have made this change, but did not do so. Fear, uncertainty, social, temporal and cultural constraints? Any excuse is valid for not moving towards change.

The challenge for non-digital native companies is to proceed with a digital metamorphosis and start it as soon as possible. Waiting to see how the market develops and unfolds can lead to something similar to what has happened with some taxi companies.

Digital Metamorphosis: a long journey.

Change starts with oneself and the whole organisation has to be in the same boat, towards a single destination which is Digital Transformation, in order to improve processes, simplify, understand, share and improve the customer’s value proposition.
